Mark your calendars for August 15, 2015 and the 4th annual ALS Awareness 5k Run Walk! In our first 3 years, this event has donated nearly $60,000 to ALS research. The number of participants and amount of money raised every year. In 2014, 394 registered runners and walkers did not let near record heat prevent them from supporting this cause and raising over $23,000. As always, the volunteers have been great and the generosity of the donors and participants has been outstanding. Check out the YouTube video for highlights of last year's race. We look forward to seeing your continued support in 2015.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Patients become paralyzed, although their mind remains unaffected. The average survival time is 3 to 5 years after diagnosis. There is no cure for ALS. With your help, we can change that.
There are six individuals with ties to the community that lost their lives to this terrible disease. They were more than just five people - they were a husband, wife, daughter, grandpa, grandma, mother, father, brother, sister, neighbor, and friend to all the people they left behind. And while there were three local individuals that inspired this run/walk, they are just five of 5,600 people in the United States that are diagnosed with this deadly disease every year.
These families, with the unbelievable support of many, many volunteers have combined their efforts to make this run/race possible. While there is no cure for ALS, there has been significant progress towards a cure in recent years. We need to keep this momentum going.
The funds from this event all go to ALS Worldwide and the Les Turner Foundation. Click the link below to learn more about ALS, the two organizations we are supporting, and the individuals who inspired this event - Alan Lessen, Donna Naffziger, Michelle Conrady Brown, Phillip
"Punk" O'Donoghue, and Evelyn Minoff.
If you have a loved one who has been afflicted with this disease, please contact us so that we may honor them in the 2014 event.
